"Facts are stubborn things; and what ever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they can not alter the state of facts, and evidence."
John Adams (1735 - 1826)
The Evidence Unit of the Warren County Prosecutorís Office stores and maintains the integrity of items of evidence submitted for use in criminal investigations and trials. The Unit assures the proper identification, packaging, handling, processing, security, and retrievability of evidential items. This includes maintaining an accurate record of the chain-of-custody for all items of evidence under its control. Once a case has been completed and the items of evidence in that case are of no further value, the Unit must properly dispose of those items. The handling of these items in a uniform and professional manner assures prosecutions are not jeopardized through evidence loss or contamination, and guarantees that the integrity of the law enforcement community in regard to property control is maintained. A Superior Officer and one detective staff the Unit. Two additional detectives are designated as backups in those cases where the primary detective is unavailable to receive and/or retrieve evidence items. Secretaries attached to the Juvenile/Domestic Violence Units provide clerical support when necessary.
